Saturday morning, the ice at South Bend's Howard Park opened for skating.
Despite warmer temperatures this week, officials say it was smooth skating.
The South Bend Department of Parks and Recreation maintains the rink.
Officials say not to worry about the warmer weather; they can keep the ice solid, even when temperatures reach into the mid-forties.
"It’s more comfortable when its in the upper thirties as opposed to the upper thirties or low twenties so its more comfortable, and a lot more fun to be out on the ice," explains Jennifer Rozmarynowski, S.B. Parks and Recreation Promotions.
