The U.S. Army is apologizing to the families of about 275 officers killed or wounded in action.
The Army says it mistakenly sent letters to the officers in December encouraging them to return to active duty.
The letters were sent to 75 officers killed in action and 200 wounded officers.
The Army says it used the wrong database when it generated a mass-mailing of letters between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
The Army says it is now taking steps to make sure the mistake does not happen again.
