Warmer temperatures are keeping cabin fever at bay so far this winter.

It is the beginning of January and Thursday people were out making the most of what so far has been a warm winter.

Juday Creek Golf Course was buzzing with activity.

Warm temperatures and little snow so far this winter has left little time for dust to gather on anyone’s clubs.

Bud Zessinger was a golfer taking advantage of the weather, he said, “We’re going to play 18 holes of golf, we've got 6 guys so were going to have a good time.”

Another golfer, Carl Klappauf added, “It’s extraordinary. It’s one of those things that doesn’t happen very often, so were taking advantage of it.”

Weather that is good for golfers is good for golf courses too.

The links at Juday Creek have not closed for a full week this winter.

Assistant manager for Juday Creek, Bike Bilello, stated, “We have to stay open anytime we can get revenue it helps out, it helps our bottom line.”

Mike Pawlowski, a kicker on his high school football team, “I was the kicker on my football team so got to practice up.”

Mike says you can never start practicing too early.

Winter just started a few weeks ago, but today he is practicing field goal kicking for next football season.

Mike said, “It’s amazing, I don’t think I’ve ever done this before.”

Even if the warmer temperatures are not inspiring you to head outdoors, the warmer weather outside may have you feeling warm and fuzzy the next time you open your home heating bill.

Mike Charbonneau, public affairs manager for NIPSCO, says “If temperatures stay at or above normal temperature levels for this time of year we should see that overall 30% decrease in home heating costs throughout the winter months.”

Charbonneau says there is no guarantee on that 30% decrease for home heating bills, but as long as temperatures stay normal or above normal, that figure should be fairly accurate.
