Joe Donnelly prides himself on being an "average Joe", but today the Democrat from South Bend was anything but ordinary. Indiana's 2nd district Representative joined other members elect in taking the official oath at about 2:30 today.
Back in November Joe Donnelly won the district seat over incumbent Chris Chocola by a 54 percent to 46 percent margin.
“I'm incredibly grateful to the people of this district and I want to thank Mr. Chocola for his years of service,” Donnelly exclaimed in his acceptance speech the night of the election.
Donnelly says he has many priorities as a new Democrat who'll join Nancy Pelosi's Majority. “We've talked about things like Medicare prescription Part D, negotiating prices to get lower drug prices for our seniors, implementing the 911 commission Iraq recommendations, and raising the minimum wage to help spread the wealth to those who don't have quite as much,” Donnelly explains. “So what we want to try to do is stand up for middle class families and that's what I want to go to work on right away.”
Filling the shoes of a congressman will be tough, but not to worry, Joe Donnelly has had his soles repaired since he wore them out walking the streets of Central Indiana earning those votes.
