Toyota’s New Smart Car

Some new technology could eventually protect you on the road.

Toyota is working on a fail-safe system for cars that will shut it down if the driver is drunk.

Sensors like an interlock system would not let the vehicle start if it detects alcohol in the sweat of a driver's palms on the steering wheel.

Other sensors would detect abnormal driving and slow the car to a halt.

Toyota hopes to roll the system out by 2009.
