This 2007 New Year is a little more memorable for some new parents this year. As of Monday afternoon, at least a half-dozen babies have been born this January 1st in Michiana.

There was no confetti, fireworks, or champagne, but the parents of the new year's babies tell us none of that matters compared to the delivery that came early this morning. Both families we talked with say they weren’t expecting to win the prize for the first babies of 2007.

One of the first to arrive, Cloey Kathren Miller. She came into the world at 1:54 a.m. at Goshen General Hospital. She’s the first child for proud parents Jodee and Adam Miller. “It's kind of exciting, don't know what her cries are for, hard to get used to. At 7 lbs, 3 ounces, she was a week late, due on Christmas. And her new years birth is nothing new for Cloey's family. She's the fifth of several generations to be born on New Years day. “My mother, her brother, my grandma, and then my mom’s great-grandma,” says Mom Jodee.

Just a couple of hours later, Stone Edward Wyatt Cook came into the world at 4:27 a.m. at South Bend's Memorial Hospital. And this little guy was a few weeks early!

“It was a little scary. I cried probably the whole time I was in there,” says Mom Kimberlie. Baby Stone is just 3 lbs, 15 ounces. And despite his unexpected arrival, his mom says, he's breathing on his own and should be alright. “He's doing really good, he hasn't needed any oxygen or anything, so they're just keeping him here for awhile, get his weight up and pretty soon, he'll be able to come home,” says Kimberlie.

She says her son is the fourth and probably the last child in the family. “Knowing he is the last makes him a little more special cause there's not going to be anyone after him, cause he is the last one,” she adds.

Both families say their new additions are a great way to kick off the new year. This is probably the best way there is,” says Kimberlie. “The kid, she’s always going to have a party on her birthday, yeah, she's always going to have a good birthday,” says Jodee and Adam Miller.

Another family we can congratulate, at 3:32 a.m., Heather and Robert Fairchild of Knox gave birth to Christian Bruce Fairchild. And it looks like the earliest baby delivered today, was at Lakeland Hospital in Niles, at 1:04 a.m. Parents and staff were unavailable to give is his or her name.
