Drinking Problems on South Shore Line

Intoxicated riders are causing concerns for the South Shore.

Officials with the commuter rail-line say troubles with people drinking alcohol before boarding and while riding have grown in the past year.

They say alcohol use on the trains is especially bad during the summer.

Some of the worst troubles are caused by drunken fans traveling to Chicago Cubs night games.

Drinking is typically allowed on the South Bend to Chicago line.

South Shore officials banned alcohol Sunday for New Year’s Eve activities.
