New Smoking Ordinance Commences In Hong Kong


New Years Day marked a big changed for people in Hong Kong.

Starting Monday, smoking will be prohibited in Hong Kong parks, playgrounds, stadiums, sports facilities, beaches and swimming pools.

Under the ordinance, Hong Kong can select some smoking areas in their public facilities.

Many residents of Hong Kong are in favor of the new law, saying it will make life in the city healthier.

According to Hong Kong government statistics, there were nearly 800,000 smokers in the city of 6.9 million.
