Several new laws are going into effect this New Year's Day.
Among them is the law to stop junk faxes.
Indiana's Do Not Fax Law goes into effect today.
Hoping to stop the flood of advertisements coming into offices and homes everyday, attorney general Steve Carter says his office will be fining companies that violate the law up to 1,500 dollars per violation.
Two new license plates will also be available in Indiana this week including one honoring Hoosier troops.
The plate features a portion of a waving US flag and a yellow ribbon.
The plates will cost an extra 35 dollars.
Another new Hoosier plate will feature the words In God We Trust.
A bill creating the specialty plate passed through the statehouse last year.
