New Look for an Old Building

An old building gets a fresh look.

The South Bend Civic Theatre is in the middle of a makeover.

The historic building has been undergoing renovation to house two state-of-the-art theatres, a two-story scene shop and a restored marble main lobby.

The $4 million project includes new lighting, plumbing, electrical work and of course more stage room.

"You couldn't ask for a better facility, to me it's one of the top ten community theatres in the entire country," explains Jim Coppens, Executive Director of South Bend Civic Theatre.

Now this was just a sneak peek, the official ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of the Civic Theatre will be January fourth.

The Civic Theatre also plans to start the New Year with a three week run of Man of La Mancha"

That show opens on January 12th.
