Daniels to Continue Bold Agenda

For Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels to continue his bold agenda, he'll have to rely on something he hasn't seen much-of in the past…bi-partisan support.

That's because Republicans lost control of the Indiana House in the November elections...

Governor Daniels could not have passed daylight saving time, or leased the Toll Road without that Republican House majority.

It remains to be seen what, if anything, he can pass now that democrats control the chamber.

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that Daniels is pushing a plan to
Bring full day kindergarten to Indiana. “I mean first of all, the agenda that I'm suggesting let's give credit where it is due, much of it originated in the Democratic party,” says Daniels.

That’s the same party that will take control of the Indiana House for the final two years of Daniel’s first term.

“I take Pat Bauer at his word,” says Daniels, “that as (House) Speaker he intends to try to find common ground. For two years it was a political tactical judgement that he made, to be against, against, against everything, but I don't think that necessarily predicts how he's going to be when he's back in power.”

While the Governor finds it frustrating that he sometimes seems to be operating faster than the speed of public opinion, he sees greater danger in slowing down.

“Doing nothing,” says Daniels, “has a very real price, and I hope more hoosiers are starting to think a little about that.”
