Indiana’s Blue Laws Means No Alcohol Sales on New Year’s Eve

If you want to ring in the New Year with alcohol, make a resolution to plan ahead.

As you may already know Indiana is one of several states that still have Blue Laws, restricting the sale of alcohol on Sundays.

This year, New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday.

Some beer, wine and liquor store owners complain that Sunday restrictions will hurt sales on what is typically their busiest day of the year.

In most places however, restaurants and bars can still serve alcohol on Sundays.

Blue Laws date back to the Colonial Era. They supposedly got their name from the blue paper they were printed on.
