Americans will take millions of photos this holiday and there are almost as many online sites to have them printed out.
This year, a price war means prints for just pennies.
Kodak Gallery had prints for 15 cents each. Add tax and shipping, and for 12 pictures, the total was $3.72.
Shutterfly was 19 cents a print. With shipping, that added up to $4.27.
Photocheap.biz was only 8 cents a piece, but had a 99 cent handling fee and a $1.99 charge for shipping, which brought the total to $3.94.
Finally, Winkflash cost 12 cents per picture, plus a flat shipping rate of 99 cents and came in at the cheapest at just $2.43.
Within about a week all the prints were delivered, except the Photocheap order, which took two weeks to arrive.
Overall, the pictures came out nice.
Professional Photographer Bob Colmer, gave his opinion. "Eighty percent of these are very acceptable, especially for a family picture," he said.
There were some problems however, like the color not always being consistent and some pictures cropped off heads.
All around, Shutterfly got the best marks from the expert.
However, he said remember, when you choose online developers, it is not the same as choosing a more expensive lab.
"It’s like going to McDonald's and ordering it medium rare," says Colmer.
The websites provided consumers an inexpensive and hassle free way to keep holiday memories for years to come.
All the websites are pretty easy to use.
You do need to sign up for all of them, but membership is free.
