Christmas Sales Fall Short of Expectations

Despite a promising start to the Christmas shopping season, retail sales fell short of expectations.

The research Firm Shopper Trak reports holiday sales were up 4.3 percent this year, but fell short of the estimated five percent.

Warm weather in much of the country may be to blame; many shoppers say mild temperatures didn't put them in the mood to shop.

However, retailers are now looking forward to after Christmas shoppers to improve sales, as they come in the next few days to use their gift cards.

Gift cards do not count as revenue until they are redeemed.
