4th Graders at McKinley Primary Academy took a time-out from their studies to thank local firemen for their brave efforts here at home.
These students weren't even born in 2001, but that doesn't mean they don't admire their local heroes. McKinley kids made cookies for the firemen, wrote poems and made artwork to honor the firemen's work.
Mayor Buttigieg came out to the event too, but kept a very low profile, so the attention was on local firemen.
As for the guests of honor, the kids' event made this day of sad remembrance a little easier.
"It certainly does lighten it up, and it's good to know that kids who weren't even born on 9/11, this 4th Grade Class at McKinley Primary Center, remember that,” says Mark Catanzarite, Batallion Chief. “It's just amazing these kids have obviously been educated and know the history of our country and what happened 11 years ago in America.”
The chief added that the content of the kids' poems was quote "just amazing."
