South Bend continues to build towards the future.
Jeff Gibney was named the city's interim Director of Community and Economic Development Friday morning.
Born in South Bend, Gibney has served as the director of the South Bend Heritage Foundation for the past several years.
He says his interest in economic development began 30 years ago, when he bought a home on West Washington.
Mayor Steve Luecke said of Gibney, "Jeff brings a load of experience. He's an entrepreneur, very creative and he takes on tough projects. And from my perspective, one of the important things is that he builds good partnerships."
New Director of Community and Economic Development, Jeff Gibney said, "I hope to be a facilitator, a mediator and an innovator in this transformation."
Gibney added, "We need to help push south bend to its fullest potential."
Gibney is taking a one-year leave from the Heritage Foundation to serve as the interim Director of Community and Economic Development.
He starts his new job on January 15th.
