Mitch’s Kids Continues To Help Hoosier Students

A program that helps Hoosier children in the classroom will continue next year.

Governor Mitch Daniels was at South Bend's Wilson Primary Center Thursday to talk about the success of the ‘Mitch’s Kids Program’.

In just 11 months, the program has provided homework help to over 4,000 at-risk children.

Mitch's Kids works with the Boys & Girls Club to give students at least thirty homework and tutoring sessions.

The goal is to improve a student's attitude towards school and learning.

Governor Daniels stated, "At this club we have the best results in the state. Wilson achieved off the charts results. Several grade levels, 2 and 3 grade levels on average, for the 144 kids who have been part of Mitch's Kids here."

The Governor added, “We believe in results not just good intentions this program has worked and now that we've seen it work, we're going to grow it and make it larger this year."

Daniels has committed an additional $1 million to fund the program in 2007.

He hopes to enroll 4,000 more children.
