Wednesday night, the annual Basket Ball for Daimon's Kids was held in Elkhart. Each year, Daimon Beathea, a former Elkhart Memorial and Michigan State basketball stand-out raises money for high risk Michiana kids.
Beathea holds a basketball camp and uses the money raised to buy the kids new shoes and tickets to a Harlem Globetrotters game.
It is his way of giving back to the community.
"I had to fight and scratch along the way, and I know what they go through. I know that sometimes that Christmas time is real thin, I know a lot of kids they may not even have heat this Christmas. So when you are looking at it from that angle, being part of that before, you have a big time heart for those who are in need this time of year," explains Beathea.
Daimon says he hopes to expand the program to include other sports and even I-step tutoring.
