Could your gender hurt your chances of recovering from certain types of arthritis? A new study says ‘yes’.

Researchers followed almost 700 men and women who had recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

After two years, 48 percent of the men were in remission compared to only 32 percent of women.

After five years, the gap increased as fewer than 31 percent of women were in remission compared to 52 percent of men.

The study’s authors say the patients' age, drug treatment and length of time with the disease did not make a difference in their results.
