Some Benton Harbor Elementary students "wrapped up" a community service project Tuesday.
During a season filled with thoughts of "I want this" and "get me that", kids at Martindale Elementary are putting thoughts of others before themselves.
Students have been busy cutting and coloring, hoping to bring some holiday cheer to those who might need it.
The kids finished 1,100 cards.
That is enough to send to each and every live-in patient in Berrien County.
While the hard work may be behind them, teachers are hoping this lesson is one that will stick with the students past the holiday season.
School resource officer Dan Stuglick got the idea after visiting some of his own family members at a nursing home.
He and some of the teachers designed the cards, but the kids have really made the project their own.
So instead of thinking about what they might unwrap Christmas morning, Martindale students are thinking about their wishes for others.
It may be too late to send these cards off in the mail, but they will reach their destination by Christmas Day.
Officer Dan says he will deliver the cards to each nursing home himself.
