Tuesday morning, there was an explosion and gas leak in Cass County, Michigan just north of Elkhart.
The explosion rocked a large area.
People felt the rumble in thousands of homes and offices across two counties, from Elkhart to Edwardsburg and east to Middlebury, just before 10AM.
Crews were finally able to shut the gas off around 11:15AM.
Midwest Energy Cooperative says their lineman, 27-year old Danny Young, died from injuries he suffered in the explosion.
Midwest energy says a trencher Young was operating hit a high pressure natural gas line.
It all unfolded at U.S. 12 and Tharp Lake Road in Cass County, but due to safety concerns, people are being kept away from the immediate area.
Part of U.S. 12 near the scene was shut down for a couple hours and re-opened around 12:30 PM.
