Human Bomb Sniffing Research

Could there eventually be such a thing as a drug or bomb sniffing human?

Scientists say the answer is yes, if we are willing to get down on all fours and sniff the ground.

Researchers literally treated participants like dogs, only allowing them to use their sense of smell to track a 33-foot long string that had been doused with a chocolate scent.

About two thirds were able to track the trail within three attempts.

Much like dogs, researchers were also able to train participants to improve their smell-tracking skills.

They also learned humans can use information from both nostrils to tell where an odor is coming from, much like how we use both ears to locate a sound.
