St. Matthew’s School Pitches in for Toys For Tots

Some local youngsters are also making the holidays brighter for children in need by donating to the Toys for Tots program.

Each classroom at St. Matthew Cathedral School in South Bend had to choose a special project for advent.

So, the first graders decided to collect toys for the Toys for Tots program.

Thursday, when the Marines arrived to pick-up the donations, the children had trouble containing their excitement.

Tere Sinka from St. Matthew’s School said, "This was our advent project to collect toys for tots to help those in need. They've been ancy, they've been excited. They can't wait to see the marines and know that they're helping others."

St. Matthew’s started donating to the Toys for Tots program three years ago.

The first year, the students collected about 45 toys, this year, they brought in more than 150.
