The Salvation Army in Topeka, Kansas got an early Christmas gift this year.
It struck gold when workers found a gold coin while sorting and counting donations from their Christmas donation kettles.
The 1998 coin is worth more than $600.
A spokesman for the Topeka Salvation Army said the coin counter was taken by surprise when he found the one-ounce American eagle gold coin.
Now, the Topeka group is waiting to hear from division headquarters about what to do with the coin.
