An Elkhart man will be charged with murder in the death of his infant son.
21-year-old Carlos Ortiz was arrested on Friday for neglect.
His six-week-old son Jaylen died over the weekend.
Tests showed the baby's brain was bleeding severely.
An autopsy shows the boy died from severe head trauma.
Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill stated, "Certainly the injuries that we have here are consistent with the possibility that this child was shaken, however the injuries that were demonstrated by the pathology report further indicate impact. They're the type of injuries that go beyond the shaken baby matter.”
Formal murder charges are expected to be filed either later Wednesday or Thursday.
If convicted, Ortiz could spend up to 65 years in prison.
Meanwhile, police are still investigating the details surrounding the baby's death.
