Gifts of a Generous Generation

When it comes to giving to charities Baby Boomers has become the greatest generation.

New statistics show boomers give an average of 20 percent more to charities than their parents did.

Most of those donations are not one time deals and 35 percent of baby boomers say they will give more to charities five years from now than they do now.

Rob McGovern, Founder of Market10.com, says, "I think maybe because baby boomers are idealists, they truly believe they can make a difference."

"When you look at baby boomers in particular at the upper end they are much more philanthropic than the rest of the nation," says Holly Isdale, of Lehman Brothers.

The giving will continue after the Baby Boomers are gone because 40 percent of them say they will leave money to charities in their wills.

That compares to only 20 percent left behind by the generation before them.
