"Shop With a Cop" Brightens Christmas for Kids

There are children each Christmas who need special love and care,
Some have suffered abuse and are lonely and scared.

16 Saint Joseph County Police officers whisked them away,
these special kids staying at the Women's Shelter YWCA.

There was time for a burger, fries and a little play.
It made every kid feel like they were "king for a day".

Santa even stopped by to grant a Christmas wish,
and six-year-old Dashaunna had a very long list. “I want a Barbie, a baby, a TV and that’s not all..”

A few officers posed with Santa themselves.
Don't you think those guys would make pretty good elves?

A wave goodbye to the generous people at Burger King,
then it was off to Toys R Us, with sirens in full swing.

Each child had $40 to spend as they might.

The Saint Joseph FOP foot the bill tonight.

Some kids picked quickly, then they were all set.
Others chose something to give, and not to get.

“That says a lot for these kids,” says Corporal Michael Banicki.

With carts all emptied and bags filled with toys,
police officers set off to return the girls and boys.

And some year in the future when they think of Christmases past,
they'll remember “shop with a cop” was memory made to last.
