A grant to Ivy Tech is seen as a first step in solving some local labor problems.
A $670,000 check was handed to Ivy Tech North Central, in support of two new programs.
Both programs are designed to address local labor shortages identified in advanced manufacturing, and respiratory therapy.
Juan Manigault of the Workforce Development Group, INC. said, "I think the respiratory therapy shortage we're dealing with about 130 respiratory therapist shortage in our region, and so this is an attempt to address those shortages.”
Ivy Tech's respiratory therapy program will begin in the fall of 2007.
In the weeks to come, Workforce Development will announce additional grant programs designed to respond to other labor shortages in the area.
