Many people look forward to celebrating the holidays with family and friends but this time of year can be especially difficult for military families.
Here in Michiana, more than 100 families with the Marines of Company B will be celebrating without their loved one.
Today, a special Christmas dinner was held for those families at the VFW post in Mishawaka.
Santa was also on hand to give gifts to the kids.
It was a chance for families to get together and talk about the issues affecting their Marines overseas.
U.S Marine Corps First Sgt., Robert Rhodes says, "It's really helpful that they can come in, get together, talk to family members of other deployed marines and maybe make some contacts, exchange phone numbers and that sort of thing, to help support each other during the deployment."
The family of Marine Corporal Aaron Seal who was killed earlier this year in Iraq was at today's event.
Seal's family accepted an award honoring him, named after Corporal Tate, a Marine from Oregon who was killed during Vietnam.
