First Candidate in South Bend Mayor Race

The first candidate in the race for South Bend's mayor is about to throw his hat into the ring.

The executive director of Workone in South Bend, Juan Manigault tells NewsCenter 16 he will make a formal announcement next week.

Manigault will run for South Bend mayor on the Republican ticket.

He says his campaign will focus on economic growth, public safety and education.

A spokesperson says Democratic Mayor Stephen Luecke will run for reelection, although he will not make his announcement until next month.

Mayor Luecke will be looking for a new economic development director.

A source familiar with the situation tells Newscenter 16 that Sharon Kendall has resigned.

Kendall has been economic development director since 2003, and will reportedly step down at the end of the month.
