Elkhart homicide investigators say they are tracking down the history of the gun used in Monday’s shooting that left an 11-year-old girl dead.

Hawthorne Elementary fifth grader Aaliyah Joiner died Tuesday afternoon at a Fort Wayne Hospital.

Police arrested her 12-year-old cousin on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness.

The shooting happened at the children's grandparents’ home just a few doors down from the school.

Wednesday, police received results from a federal gun trace. However, they have not released that information yet.

They are also following up on several tips to find how the gun ended-up in the hands of youngsters.
