There is a way for you to wipe out your library fines, and help feed the less fortunate at the same time.
All you need to do is bring nonperishable food items to the St. Joseph County Library.
You can reduce your fines by one dollar for each item you bring in.
Last year more than ten thousand items were accepted.
After all the food is collected, it will be distributed right here in Michiana. “It's a great way to knock off your fines as well as replenish local food banks. All the food we get goes to the St. Vincent Depaul's Society and they distribute it in the area,” says Library Public Services Manger, David Hanna.
Now this Food For Fines program also works for overdue tapes and dvds, but does not work for lost or damaged books.
You can participate in the program from Monday, December 04 though Saturday, December 9th at any of the eight St. Joseph County Library locations
