Bells rang out around the world Friday to recognize World Aids Day.
Starting at nine Friday morning, groups rang bells every five seconds to symbolize a new HIV or AIDS, infection or death.
In Washington, the Center for Health and Gender Equality took to the steps of the Foundry Methodist Church.
Worldwide, more than 39 million people live with HIV or AIDS.
More than 15 billion dollars has been spent to save the lives of those affected by HIV and aids in the United States.
