The Indiana General Assembly is back in Indianapolis after failing to agree on a state budget.

NewsCenter 16's Mark Peterson reported live from Indy Thursday evening on the day's events.

Thursday brought a mix of the expected and the unexpected as the House convened to start the special session.

The expected: House Democrats don't like Governor Daniels' budget that was put forth last week.

Unexpected, however, were two other bills that were introduced in the House. One calls for an audit of the Family and Social Services Administration, a state agency that oversees welfare and other similar programs.

"People are not getting their phone calls answered. People are not getting their medicine. Their lives are put in danger by this privatization of FSSA, and it's a disaster the way it's been done," said House Speaker B. Patrick Bauer. "And it's only to try to squeeze profit out of the poor."

"I don't think we as a legislature have to do it," countered Rep. David Wolkins, a Republican from Winona Lake. "I think there are plenty of avenues available if there is some question about the way it's being handled. There are plenty of procedures in place now. I think the fact that we have a stage here, I think that's why it was brought here."

A third bill introduced on Thursday deals with the entity that oversees stadium operations for the Colts and the Pacers. It is likely that gambling issues will be a part of that bill.
