A number of folks are getting ready to ship out their Christmas cards this time of year. That means 20 billion cards and letters will pass through postal offices.
To help make sure your mail arrives where it needs to be (and on time), the post office has some tips for you. To ensure delivery by the holiday, they say all packages should be mailed by December 13th and all cards by December 18th.
* Make sure your package is in a strong box sealed with packing tape.
* Place the mailing address inside the package as well as outside. If you want to ship items to troops overseas you better hurry!
“If you are sending packages to our troops over in Iraq and Afghanistan, I would recommend this Monday if you want to make sure you get a Christmas present,” says Pat Donahue, Deputy Postmaster General.
The busiest mailing day is expected to be December 18th. On that day, the total mail volume is expected to more than double an average day, approximately 900 million piecesl.
