31-year-old Gary Studer faces six charges including first-degree premeditated murder and felony murder. Back on April 28th, police say Studer shot and killed his wife Tonya Goble-Studer and her mother, Vickie Ann Dewey in her Berrien County home on Red Arrow highway in Chikaming Township.
A police officer on the scene said that Studer begged him to kill him. The officer also said that Studer was trying to leave the home with the couple's two children.
The officer says he tasered Studer then pulled the children to safety.
At a hearing earlier this year, Studer's lawyer argued that he has a head injury from a previous accident and likely mixed drugs and alcohol on the day the women were killed.
Since the hearing, a forensic examiner has evaluated Studer to determine if he is criminally responsible for his actions.
There's no word yet on what role that examination will play in the trial.
