Michigan City leaders are hoping the Coast Guard will not be setting up live fire zones in Lake Michigan.
The City Council approved a resolution asking the Coast Guard to consider using onshore simulators, fewer sites throughout the lakes, and non-lead bullets.
Many people along the lake have worried about the safety of other boaters and sea life.
The Coast Guard has proposed using several areas in the lakes as practice.
The council voted six to two to approve the resolution.
