US troops serving in Iraq have been treated to a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey and all the trimmings.
However, the fighting in Iraq rages on.
Insurgents attacked the health ministry in Baghdad and explosions in Sadr City have claimed more than 150 lives.
On this American Holiday, the military serves a special meal and the officers serve the enlisted men.
They try to make it a special occasion so all day up and down the country 140,000 American soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are being given that special meal they are making their way to the mess hall tents right now.
I can tell you that contractors have been working overtime to get this ready they've served about 170,000 pounds of turkey, 140,000 pounds of potatoes, all the trimmings and 10,000 gallons of Egg Nogg. "Food's good. I’m enjoying it. It’s mot like my mom's, or my Autie's back in L.A.,California, but it does the job," said Staff Sergeant Brian Gilmer.
But many of the troops we have talked to say they would rather be at home, but here they are thousands of miles away doing their duty and not all of them are just eating, many of them are out doing those patrols doing the work of the military up and down the country.
So while this is a special holiday for American troops in Theater, for the rest of the country the war continues.
The kitchen staff that creates the meal for the troops in Baghdad's green zone says they know how important this taste of home is to the service men and women in Iraq.
And they take pains to make it special, all the way from decorations to desserts.
