Statistics show most Americans will not be home for the holidays. They'll be traveling!
Today millions of Americans are hitting the highways despite higher travel costs!
No matter where you're headed for the holidays you certainly won't be alone!
“Personally I wish I didn't have to work! The only reason I came out here was because the pay is really good if it was me I would have stayed home today,” says truck driver Brian Soliday.
“We're going to Ohio. Which means we are going to my sister's place… which also means no cooking! Exclaimed another traveling family.
AAA Chicago says the number of travelers is up by almost three percent this year.
That, despite the higher prices they'll have to pay to get there!
AAA says the cost of travel for airfare, rental cars or hotels is up.
Gas prices are up by about thirty cents in Indiana this year but not enough to deter drivers from hitting the road since they've been falling the past few months.
With heavier traffic Indiana state police troopers from all posts will be beefing up patrols from Thursday until Sunday.
“We have a lot of speeders, then we have people who are following to closely, they don’t give themselves extra time before they head out the door and don’t allow for more traffic. They end up speeding and follow other vehicles too closely and that can lead to crashes,” says Indiana State Police Trooper Tom Szymanski.
All to make sure everyone can make it to grandma's safe and sound this holiday!
“We're very thankful for good traffic, wonderful weathe,r friendly people and this time we don’t have to cook,” said one driver.
