The Elkhart Police Department has arrested Angelica Alvarez in connection with the deaths of her four children.

The bodies of Jennifer and Gonzalo Lopez and Daniel and Jessica Valdez were found Tuesday night in the 12-hundred block of Hester Street in Elkhart.

Rescue workers originally thought the children's mother, Angelica Alvarez, was also dead at the scene, but later discovered she had a faint pulse.

Alvarez was in critical condition Wednesday at Elkhart General Hospital but a hospital spokeswoman said she could not give out any information about her condition.

Police say Alvarez is still in the hospital but is in their custody.

Police released no other details about the case.

Fernando Valdez and Gonzalo Lopez, fathers of the children, have been grateful to the support provided to them by their community.

Family members met to plan funeral arrangements Thursday for the children, so that they can be buried together.

Tuesday night Fernando Valdez came home and found his children dead in the basement. His wife was rushed to the hospital.

Autopsy results released Thursday say the four children died of asphyxia.
