Camp Atterbury may become a permanent site for army troop mobilization and training which could bring additional jobs and money to Indiana.
The 33,000 acre base is located about 30 miles south of Indianapolis.
Camp Atterbury is operated by the Indiana National Guard as a year-round training facility for reserve and active-duty troops.
It has also been used to mobilize troops headed to Afghanistan and Iraq since 2003.
A final decision is expected later this year.
