It is a race to revitalize.
Goshen's river race committee met today to talk over plans for the land next to the city's canal.
The committee wants to see the river race area become a place for new businesses and housing.
So far, the City of Goshen has received a 400-thousand dollar grant to begin environmental work.
Officials say they would like the race area to become a "front door" to the city.
Everett Thomas, member of the Goshen City Council says, "We know that people like to live on the water. We have lakefront properties that are pretty valuable. We have developers in Goshen that build entire developments with water features and here we have a water feature that runs right through a city with one of the most beautiful bike paths in the nation.”
The land was once used to generate electricity for industry in Goshen.
