We might be right in the middle of the fall season, but orchids were blooming like spring time in Michiana today.
The Michiana Orchid Society hosted an orchid show and sale today at Holy Cross College.
The purpose of the show was to educate the public on orchid growing.
Each flower plant that was on display was grown here in the Midwest.
Orchids are the largest family of flowers and plants and believe it or not, there are 30-thousand different species.
Growers say anyone can learn to grow orchids; it just takes a little patience and time.
Michiana Orchid Society member, Sandy Ohlund says, “you can grow orchids on your windowsill, in your living room, in the basement under lights, in the green house, wherever, a lot of people gown them inside in the winter and then outside in the summer."
During yesterday's show, the Michiana Orchid Society also took time to recruit new members to its club.
