Keeping Skills Sharp

A group of area firefighters sharpened their life-saving skills over the weekend.

Firefighters with the Cleveland Township fire department brushed-up on their auto extrication training on Sunday.

Firefighters were given an in-depth scenario to put their techniques and response time to the test.

Assistant Chief James Prentkowski says the goal of the drill was to get the victim out as safe and as quickly as possible!

"A lot of these individuals are volunteers. So, they’re not always gonna be on scene together. So we try to get everybody together as much as possible that way they know what's going on and that way they can try and work as a well oiled team."

Prentkowski says fall is the perfect time for firefighters to review their
auto-extrication skills.

That's because winter season is right around the corner.

With the snow, ice and slick roads, it's often their busiest time of year!
