"In God's Arms"

It’s a sad fact, but studies show that about 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage.

That's why one Michiana hospital is teaming up with a funeral home to help families cope with the unexpected loss.

For Victoria Robinson and her fiancé Stephen Daniels, Sunday's ceremony brings some comfort after the loss of their baby boy this past Memorial Day.

“It was kind of hard we weren't expecting it, he was still alive and he survived for about an hour to an hour and half but he passed away because he wasn't fully developed. His lungs were not strong enough for it” says mother Victoria Robinson.

In just the last three months, 41 families with St. Joseph regional medical center have lost a baby to a miscarriage.

And now a new program called "In God's Arms" gives people a chance to remember the young loss of a loved one.

“Based on the belief that life begins at conception we should give these fetuses and babies a proper burial,” says organizer Sister Laureen Painter with Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

“Just to know that he is recognized that he is counted as a person it just showed you know remorse for it. It’s wonderful,” added Robinson.

Every few months the hospital along with Palmer Funeral Homes will conduct a service at a special lot at Southlawn Cemetery.

“We donated some of the graves and take care some of the services at no charge and help with the babies that are less than 20 weeks of gestation,” says Kerry Palmer from the funeral home.

The goal of the program is to give a sense of closure to families who grieve the loss of a life they never got to know.

“Just a remembrance to remember that we could come back here anytime and visit and grieve and bring the family my mother couldn't make it today its nice I can bring her out here now,” says father Stephen Daniels.

There will be four memorial services every year.

Anyone grieving an early pregnancy loss is welcome to attend.
