The race for St. Joseph County Prosecutor has gotten vicious.
Two lawsuits have been filed by the candidates.
Incumbent Democrat Mike Dvorak sued his Republican challenger Greg Kauffman over a campaign ad.
Kauffman then counter-sued Dvorak.
The candidates put those two lawsuits behind them today, and really just focused on talking with the voters.
This afternoon we caught up with Greg Kauffman.
He admits its his first campaign. “So far its been remarkable. I say vote Greg Kauffman for a vetter and they question ask Democrat or Republican . They say I don't know if I can vote for you. And i always well it’s worth a shot,” he said.
So he is still learning the rules about where he can campaign around the polls.
He traveled to various polls try to persuade voters with a quick hand shake or speech.
At three o'clock, Democrat Michael Dvorak and his wife Cathy voted at St. Pius Catholic Church.
Dvorak too spent the morning, shaking hands, and thanking people for coming out to vote. “I hope that at six o'clock the numbers come out right for me. But, in the meantime, I've got a lot of positive feedback. Not only in these precinct, but some of the others I have been to as well,” he said.
Throughout the campaign, Dvorak has pointed out the progress that has been in the Prosecutor's office the past 4 years.
While Kauffman has said there is a need for a tougher stance on crime in St. Joseph County.
We will have the results on the race as they come in.
