Bright colors for a bright future: a Niles elementary school is showing off a new look, in hopes of encouraging students to read.

Vibrant bean bags and floor pillows now fill the library at Ballad Elementary.

Librarian Arlene Richardson led the redecoration project.

She says the purpose was to make the library more inviting for kids. "In order to succeed, you need to read and by encouraging them in whatever way we can, we're encouraging them to become better people and better citizens," she says.

As a special treat, local Author Cheri Hallwood, who penned the book "Winter's First Snowflake" paid a special visit to children Wednesday morning.

She hopes the new look will inspire students to plop down on a bean bag with a good book.
