Kinder, Gentler China

Free hugs are being handed out in China's capital. In fact, a "Free Hugs" campaign has hit the streets in a number of cities across China.

The goal of the campaign is to cheer up strangers with a random hug.

Participants have volunteered to open their arms to passers by and have carried signs saying "Free Hugs", "Care from Strangers" and "Refuse to be Apathetic."

Yet hugging is a gesture that most Chinese citizens are not accustomed to.

The Free Hugs campaign started in Australia and gained fame through a music video this year.
