Ever get a song in your head that you just can't get rid of? Some people are having that happen on their computer, literally. It comes in the form of a pop up that just won't go away.
It’s no wonder Sarah Schaidt can't get a tune out of her head, she hears it when she goes on the internet, "About a month and a half ago, I turned on my computer and this pop up window came up. It was weird because there was no close box or anything like that and I couldn't get rid of it."
Maria pops up and says your three-day trial to popcorn.net is over. The message says you have to pay to make the pop up go away.
"Free subscription to popcorn.net, which is like a movie website I guess. I never remember visiting it or signing up for a free trial or anything like that," Schaidt said.
Schaidt is not alone; the Federal Trade Commission got so many complaints about the pop ups, its lawyers are going after the companies involved.
Meantime Schaidt has had no success trying to get the thing off her computer.
"It slows down my computer. It has installed files that are really large files that every single time I delete them, it puts them right back on the computer again," said Schaidt.
The Federal Trade Commission wanted a judge to issue a temporary restraining order against the companies involved with popcorn.net.
That request was denied, and a lawsuit is pending.
