Recently, 7th grader Michelle Szarwark returned home from school to find fire trucks parked in front of her neighbors home.

She smelled something burning in the air and knew that it wasn't a false alarm. She then called her mom to let her know about the possible fire.

She also knew the neighbors had pets in their home. When she went to check, she found out that it wasn't her neighbors' house but another in the neighborhood.

The neighbors appreciated the fact that Michelle was looking out for their belongings.

Michelle is active in softball, volleyball and basketball. She is also involved in 4H, Little League and Michiana Twist Softball.

She is on the honor roll and was awarded the Marian Citizenship award at St. John the Baptist School.

Michelle wants to become a veterinarian and play softball for high school and college.
